Upgrade guide

Which Navision version do you run? We know the way to Business Central.

Whether Navision 5.0 from 2007 or NAV 2018: every version brings its own challenges — and for each there is a proven route. Here you can see honestly roughly how much effort your upgrade will be and how we proceed. No jargon, no sugar-coating.

    Business Central 15 – 2x (AL-Extensions)

    Hardly a project any more

Already on an AL-based version? Then moving to the current release is largely automated — in the cloud, Microsoft even performs the update itself.

    Effort

    Microsoft support

    Modern lifecycle — semi-annual releases

    What defines this version

    • Extensions instead of code changes in the standard
    • Technical upgrade runs largely automatically
    • To check: objects and APIs obsoleted by Microsoft in your own extensions

    How we proceed

We check your extensions against the target release, fix obsoletions, test in a sandbox and roll out the update — usually in days rather than months. On request we take this over permanently as an update service so you never fall behind again.

Why with us

We've done this many times. With every one of these versions.

  • Experience since Navision days

Our team has worked with NAV and Business Central for more than 13 years — we know C/AL, the classic client and the quirks of every generation from practice.

  • Fixed price after analysis

After the detailed analysis you receive a binding fixed-price quote — you know what the upgrade costs before the project starts.

  • Honest recommendation

Upgrade or fresh implementation? We calculate both routes and tell you openly what pays off for you — even if it's the smaller job.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Your question isn't listed? Ask us directly.

How do I find out which NAV version we use?
In the client under “Help → About” (older versions) or via the question-mark icon → “Help and Support” (newer versions) you will find the version and build number. Alternatively, send us a screenshot of the start screen — we will recognise the version immediately.
Can we skip versions?
Technically, a data upgrade from older versions has to run through intermediate stages — but for you as a customer it is one single project. You never use the intermediate versions productively; we handle the stages in the background and you go live directly on the current Business Central version.
Upgrade or fresh implementation — which is better?
It depends on how much history you need in the new system and how heavily your legacy system is customised. The older the version, the more often a fresh implementation with data transfer is more economical. We calculate both options in the analysis and honestly recommend the cheaper route.
What happens after my NAV version's end of support?
The system keeps running but no longer receives security or regulatory updates (e.g. for reporting or e-invoicing). At the same time it becomes harder to find compatible servers, operating systems and specialists. The earlier you plan, the more relaxed and cheaper the switch.

Effort estimates are based on experience and do not replace an analysis of your specific system. Support dates according to Microsoft's lifecycle policy (end of extended support).
