ERP migration
ERP migration describes moving from an existing ERP system to a new one, including the transfer of master data and documents.
A migration involves more than transferring data. Open questions include how much history to carry over, how existing customisations will be represented, how adjacent systems connect and how users will be trained.
The effort depends heavily on how far the legacy system was customised. An installation run largely in the standard can be migrated considerably faster than a special solution grown over years whose customisations are often only partly documented.
It has proven effective to run an analysis before implementation: which customisations will be carried over, which replaced by standard functionality and which dropped entirely. Only then can effort be estimated seriously.
